Visit Christianshavn and Christiania, the Hyppie Community
- 3 hours

English-speaking guided tour of the Christiania district in Copenhagen. Christiania is a self-proclaimed “free town,” operating as a self-managed hippie community.
All our guided tours are PRIVATE and led by professional guides with a passion for history, gastronomy, literature and more.
Tucked away in the heart of Christianshavn lies Christiania (Fristaden Christiania), a self-declared “free city” that has operated as a self-governed community since it was founded in September 1971 by a group of squatters and hippies.
Christiania represents a true way of life: home to nearly a thousand residents across 34 hectares, it has its own currency and it won’t escape the visitor’s attention that this city within a city is a haven of creativity and imagination, expressed in every tiny detail. The neighbourhood has been at the centre of much controversy. Its legal status has long been a source of conflict and negotiation. Until recently, the open sale of cannabis took place on Pusher Street, in full view of all.
Colourful and controversial, Christiania is a truly unique place to visit — and best experienced with a local guide.
